ARABIC
Arabic can be traced back to about eight centuries before Christ. The language is therefore very old and has changed a lot since its origin. The word ‘Arabic’ means nomadic and refers to the nomads in the Arabian Peninsula who spoke the language. With the spread of Islam, Arabic became more and more widespread and is now one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. You might already know that you read the language from right to left, but did you know that many languages borrow words from Arabic? The words 'giraffe', 'alcohol', 'caravan' and 'talisman' are all originally Arabic!
